Proofreader

Overview

The Proofreader is important to ensure the accuracy of our client content and deliverables. This role is on the frontlines of editing.  They are charged with reviewing, proofing and editing written strategy, digital and printed content in a fast-paced environment.  A Proofreader is a natural perfectionist, and is meticulous and thorough in their work providing error-free, consistent and accurate delivery.  They are expected to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects at any given time, which may necessitate work outside normal business hours.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Edit and review strategic and creative content across a variety of media and industries
  • Review and proofread materials for spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, usage, consistency and brand voice
  • Provide clear and concise markup to reviewed work
  • Ensure accuracy in content including, but not limited to, verification of referenced facts and annotations, cross-reference provided materials and maintain source and reference to support work edits
  • Ability and interest in learning new skills and cross-training QA duties with delivery teams as it relates to digital execution
  • Provide constructive editorial input to improve and execute high-quality work
  • Continual assessment of process and ability to recognize and recommend efficiencies
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to write and edit well
  • Fluency in proofreading symbols and proficiency in tracking changes digitally in Google Suite software programs
  • Resourcefulness in cross-checking and verifying data to quickly find answers to get projects to the finish line
  • Flexibility and ability to multi-task
  • Strong communication skills with ability to work with and influence multiple personalities across different job functions to get the job done
  • Swift and obsessive attention to detail when proofreading and communicating across internal and external stakeholders so nothing is missed or overlooked
  • Remain calm in high pressure situations 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field
  • 2+ years of project management in a creative agency environment 
  • Work-related experience in an agency or fast-paced corporate setting, experience in healthcare or financial environments, a plus
