Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) - Minnetonka


At RMI, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is a critical leader in a fast-growing organization who will provide strategic direction and practical oversight in the assessment and management of risk across Legal, Compliance & Security, as well as Human Resources.   

An attorney by trade, the CAO will serve as in-house counsel and will act as a liaison with regulatory bodies and third-party contractors. The CAO is responsible for establishing standards and implementing policy to ensure that internal programs throughout the organization are effective and efficient in identifying, preventing, and correcting noncompliance with both policy and industry regulation. The CAO has to provide reasonable assurance to senior leadership and our customers that policies and procedures are effective, efficient, well understood and followed by all employees & contractors, and that the company is complying with all regulatory requirements.  Additionally, as the HR leader, the CAO will ensure that the organization is attracting, retaining, and developing the best possible talent to exceed client expectations.

  • Negotiate, write and execute both agreements and contracts on behalf of the company
  • Oversee and influence the effective implementation of comprehensive compliance, fraud, and security programs, continue to develop, monitor, and manage these  programs, internally and externally
  • Communicate requirements for compliance, fraud, and security policies to all stakeholders
  • Supervise and monitor firm communication and marketing activities from a compliance standpoint
  • Identify potential areas of risk or vulnerability, then create and implement resolution plans
  • Flawlessly execute all compliance responsibilities with the highest of quality, ethics, and integrity
  • Communicate with various legal and regulatory bodies to understand current and new rulings affecting the firm and its operations
  • Effectively manage regulatory examinations on behalf of the firm, interact with regulators on compliance issues, and coordinate efforts related to audits, reviews, and examinations
  • Participate in firm planning and leadership; manage or participate in certain operational or marketing functions
  • Develop and maintain an annual compliance calendar and/or work plan
  • Provide guidance, advice, and/or training and educational programs, to improve team members’ understanding of related laws and regulatory requirements
  • Provide strategic direction and insight as needed
  • Prepare and present clear and concise reports to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Develop policies and programs that encourage mentors and employees to report suspected fraud and other improprieties, without fear of retaliation
  • Independently investigate and act on matters related to Legal, Compliance & HR
  • Provide ongoing employee compliance training and new employee compliance training



  • Degree from accredited law school and a license to practice law in MN
  • Although not required, it would be helpful to have int’l law/regulatory knowledge & experience
  • Proven leadership skills with experience in developing, managing, and leading teams, as well as establishing and implementing procedures with respect to the entire organization
  • Record of success in project management, prioritization, and ability to maintain flexibility in a fast-paced environment, while meeting and/or exceeding deadlines
  • A curious and observant individual who is able to recognize issues and confront conflicts and difficult issues in a professional manner
  • Emotional maturity, professional mindset, and the utmost discretion
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in all areas of Microsoft Office & Google Suite; must be tech-savvy
  • Authorization to work in the United States
